Floating Dot Garland [Tutorial]

Pretty Garland that appears to be Floating in thin air!

My little girl is almost 7 months old and I'm just getting around to finishing up her room. I started out not wanting a room too girly, but it is indeed very sweet and I love it. I'm addicted to green and I love the shade of green her room turned out to be. It's brighter than these pictures. 

I contemplated making a bunting to hang from the shelf above the daybed in her room but I wanted something lighter and whimsical. So this is what I came up with - a garland that appears to be floating.

I really like the way it came out and it was so simple and inexpensive since I had all of the supplies already. My garland is approx. 5 feet long with 25 floating circles, but you can always add more circles to make a longer garland.

Wanna make one? It's super simple and fast.

Here's what you'll need:

Step #1
Punch your circles from the scrapbook paper. You will need a front and back. For example, if you want a garland with 25 dots, punch 50 circles.

Step #2
Drop your circles one at a time into the Create-A-Sticker right side up. You only need to make one of the sides of the "dot" sticky. For example, if you punched 50 circles, only make 25 sticky.

Step #3

Continue making half of your circles into stickers.

Step #4

Once half of your punched circles have been fed through the Create-A-Sticker, rub your circles firmly to make sure the sticky adheres.

Step #5

You now have pretty circle stickers! Peel away the clear plastic.

Step #6

Pull some clear thread from the spool, but do not cut. Be sure to keep the spool to the right so you can unwind as you go giving you the space to continue adding circles.

Place a circle sticker on a flat surface, sticky side up. Starting on the left (the cut end of the thread) put the thread through the middle of the circle.

Step #7
Place another non-sticky circle on top of the circle sticker. Press firmly to adhere the top circle. This will sandwich the thread between the two circles. Now you have a floating 2-sided circle.

Step #8
Continue sandwiching your circles on the clear thread until you reach your desired garland length. I left about 3" between circles, but how far apart you place them is totally up to you. Leave another 6 inches after your last "dot" and cut your thread. The extra length at the beginning and ending is for hanging the finished garland.

Also, if your wondering about the framed art on the shelf. It is The Dreamy Giraffe. I love her stuff. Both of my kids have HUGE blue eyes so her art is just perfect for them. I have several prints, but this is my favorite. I just love the message (or at least my interpretation of the quote) - be grateful for your current blessings and don't obsess about the things you don't have.

My mind is racing with all the different types of garlands that can be made to "float". One with pictures for a birthday would be spectacular.
