DIY Sunburst Mirror

I'm jumping on the bandwagon my friends - the sunburst mirror bandwagon. Yes, I know I'm late. But I've been refusing to pay hundreds of dollars for a sunburst mirror just in case it is just a passing fad. Oh, who and I kidding. Fad or not, I love the retro look of sunburst mirrors.

So a few weeks ago I went shopping at Old Time Pottery to pick up a rug for my front room. It's a great spot to find pretty much anything you can imagine for home decorating at awesome prices. As I was strolling through I came across a sunbursty wrought iron piece that was the perfect size. In fact it almost looked like it was just screaming, "please put a mirror in the middle of me, make me complete!" So for $14.99 I brought it home. I initially thought I would use the ol' embroidery hoop trick to cover the edges of the cheapo circle mirror. But THEN, while walking through Home Depot I saw these Martha Stewart Living Seneca Mirror set on clearance! Five round mirrors in just the perfect sizes already framed for less than $15! And if you order them online you get free shipping!

As for the color. I could have left it black, but nah. Too boring. I thought about spray painting it a bold color like Pimento - my new favorite fall spray paint color. But then come spring, I know I'd be over it. So instead, I went with old faithful - Champagne. Not too gold, not too silver - just right. To me that color is classic.

The great thing about the Martha mirrors is that the frame pops right off so you don't even have to worry about taping off the mirror before spraying. It was E.A.S.Y! Just unscrew the mirror from the frame, spray your pieces then let dry, put the mirror back together and glue on your sunbursty piece.

I highly suggest grabbing some of those clearance mirrors if you plan on making a sunburst mirror. They worked out perfect!

Cheers,
Melissa
